Channel 4 commissions ‘Class of 2020’ from Label1 Television

Category: News Release

Channel 4 has commissioned from the award-winning production company Label1, a new 6x60” documentary series, Class of 2020 (w/t).

Commissioned by Danny Horan, Head of Factual at C4 and Fozia Khan, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, Class of 2020 will chart the lives of a group of young people from the Midlands, growing up at one British secondary school in unprecedented times, as we enter a new decade, in the midst of a global pandemic and the first nationwide shutdown of schools in British history.

Reflecting the challenges of growing up in modern Britain, Class of 2020 is a long-term study and will follow the lives of its pupils over several years, both inside and outside of school, as they navigate their changing identities, personal relationships and their place in the world, which seems more uncertain than ever before.

Lorraine Charker-Phillips, Label1 Head of Programmes and Co-Founder, said: ‘We're honoured to be making a series with such scale and ambition, capturing the authentic experiences of young people transitioning into adulthood in a complex and challenging decade, and giving them a platform to have their voices heard.'

Fozia Khan, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, said: ‘We’re delighted to be making this important and ambitious series with Label1. It feels like exactly the right moment to give young people a platform to document their experiences and express themselves in these unprecedented and uniquely challenging times.’
