Why fishing has become a sticking point in UK/EU trade talks

One of the main sticking points in the post-Brexit trade talks is fishing rights and what access European boats should have to British waters.

For decades the EU’s common fisheries policy has divided up quotas between member states, leaving the UK with around 40 per cent of its own fish stocks.

Brexit supporters believe that abandoning that system would help save jobs in fishing communities and shore up the entire industry, but will that still happen if there is no deal?
