Why England’s coastline is a ‘ticking time bomb’ ready to spew rubbish out into the sea

When we throw away our rubbish, it’s never really “away”, it’s just out of sight.

But with more than 1,000 English coastal landfill sites at risk of being breached by erosion and flooding, some of that rubbish is coming back into view.

The predicted consequences of climate change, including rising sea levels and more extreme weather events, are making scientists afraid that time is running out to protect the sites.
