If Liz Truss does become the next prime minister, it’s being reported that she will hold an emergency budget on 21 September – barely two weeks into the job.

That won’t give her much time to dig through the government books to find enough money to fund her promised tax cuts and possibly give people extra help with soaring energy bills at the same time.
