Volunteers say they were arrested when police mistook them for protesters ahead of coronation

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has defended the handling of the King’s coronation but admitted “no major operation is ever perfect”.

In a letter to London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan, he said intelligence suggested that protestors were planning to disrupt last Saturday’s event.

Three council sponsored safety volunteers say they were arrested when police mistook them for protesters, telling them that the rape alarm packs they were carrying were suspicious.
