More than two dozen people have died in violent clashes in the northern Indian town of Panchkula after the religious guru Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was found guilty of rape. As the verdict was announced, crowds of angry followers went on the rampage, setting fire to government buildings and railway stations, smashing up cars and attacking journalists, before police and paramilitary forces managed to restore control.
