Venezuelans struggling to cope with shortages of food, fuel and medicine

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has used an interview with a Russian news agency to reject calls for new presidential elections, insisting his victory last spring was legitimate.

The opposition leader Juan Guaido called on supporters around the country to join a two-hour peaceful protest today, bringing huge crowds out on to the streets.

But as the political power struggle continues, ordinary Venezuelans are left coping with extreme shortages of food, fuel and medicine.
