Venezuela to elect a new President

The US has condemned Venezuela’s President election as illegitimate, and the two main challengers have alleged voters are being illegally pressured to back the incumbent Nicholas Maduro for another six years. Turnout is expected to be very low as some opponents are boycotting the election and others are banned. The poll is taking place amid Venezuela’s soaring inflation, economic crisis and food shortages.
