US press unite against Trump ‘fake news’ attacks

Chief Correspondent

The ‘fake news media’ is the opposition party, President Trump declared today, but across the United States some 350 newspapers from the New York Times to the Kentucky Times Tribune have launched an unprecedented joint campaign to counter the President’s attacks on the media.

In the past two hours the US Senate unanimously supported a free press, siding with the media against the President and insisting the media are not enemies of the people.

According to a new poll – three quarters of all Americans do not support Mr Trump’s rhetoric – although more than half of Republican voters are right behind him. Our chief correspondent Alex Thomson reports.
