Unions demand pay hike for NHS staff

A pay rise to “stop the rot” – unions say a million NHS staff should get a 3.9% hike, plus an extra £800 for what they claim they’ve lost because of austerity cuts. That would cost the health service as much as  £3bn, and it’s yet more pressure on Theresa May and the Chancellor Phillip Hammond after a week of discontent over public sector pay.
