Union warns of industrial action over chancellor’s expected public sector pay freeze

They have helped to keep the country going during the pandemic, now public sector workers could face a pay freeze and unions are furious.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is reportedly planning to announce a cap on the pay of millions of teachers, police, council staff and civil servants when he reveals his spending review next week.

Union leaders say that will lead to widespread anger and they have warned that industrial action can’t be ruled out.
