Ukraine troops greeted with celebrations as Kherson is retaken

Joyous residents welcomed Ukrainian troops in the centre of Kherson today after Russia abandoned the only regional capital it had captured since its invasion earlier this year.

According to the Ukrainians, the Russian retreat was chaotic, but Russia says it completed the withdrawal without losing a single soldier.

Ukraine says its forces have recaptured 100 square miles in the past 24 hours – and ordered any Russian soldiers still inside Kherson to surrender.
