A jumbo jet, a fleet of buses and dozens of staff – all to deport one person, with no right to remain in the UK, back to France.
This programme has discovered that a deportation flight chartered by the Home Office yesterday was carrying just one Sudanese man, who was taken to France under an international agreement which means migrants are sent back to the first safe European country they registered in.
The Home Office says more people were due to be deported, but were allowed to stay after last minute legal challenges. Paraic O’Brien has more.
