Uganda blocks internet after elections – as Bobi Wine takes on Yoweri Museveni

Security has been stepped up and all internet access has been cut, as the vote counting begins in Uganda’s fiercely contested presidential elections.

Long-standing President Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking a sixth term in office, is facing a stiff challenge from popstar-turned-politician Bobi Wine.

Despite violence in the run up to the election, people waited patiently in long queues outside polling stations to cast their votes.
