Trump and Putin debate: how they’ve changed the world

Diplomacy on Twitter, two of the world’s most powerful men making agreements behind closed doors, institutions like Nato and the European Union under attack from their closest ally. A quarter of a century ago we were all talking about the end of history.

Now, with Trump and Putin in charge, it is the end of the old world order and the threat, or perhaps the promise, of the new.

Lindsey Hilsum asks what it all means, and we talk to former MI6 director, Sir John Sawers, former US defence secretary and CIA director, Leon Panetta, and Julianne Smith, who worked in the Obama White House and now heads the think tank, Centre for a New American Security.
