Trump and Biden appear at separate town hall events

President Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden faced off over the airwaves last night with rival town hall events after their debate was cancelled when Mr Trump was diagnosed with coronavirus.

Mr Biden claimed an early win after initial figures showed his event drew millions more viewers than Mr Trump’s, but the two men offered dramatically different visions for the country – from the battle against coronavirus to the state of US democracy.
