Trade war fears as Trump raises tariffs on Chinese goods

President Trump has insisted that trade talks to end the stand-off between the US and China are continuing in a “very congenial manner”, despite having slapped new tariffs on Chinese goods worth £150 billion.

Mr Trump declared the tariffs would make the United States much stronger, as Beijing vowed unspecified counter-measures in response.
