Three die as Storm Ophelia hits Ireland

Three people have been killed as the powerful storm Ophelia swept through parts of Ireland and the UK with hurricane-force winds gusting up to 100 miles an hour. Ireland’s Prime Minister described the impact as a “national emergency”, urging people to stay indoors.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning, with a potential risk to life and property, for Northern Ireland, with other warnings covering Wales and south-west Scotland until late tonight.
