Thousands take to the streets in Georgia to protest against ‘Russian-style’ law

Violent clashes have erupted in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi as protestors faced off against tear gas and water canons.

The anger of the demonstrators is driven by a new draft law which will label non-government and media groups getting more than 20 per cent of their funds from overseas as “foreign agents”.

Dubbed “The Russian law”, as it replicates one brought in by President Putin, critics fear it marks a lurch towards Russian-style repression.
