Thousands forced to evacuate after volcano erupts Caribbean island of St Vincent

Heavy ashfall has been raining down on parts of the Caribbean island of St Vincent – a day after the La Soufriere volcano exploded – forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.

The island’s prime minister has urged local people to remain calm, after warnings that the volcano could keep exploding for several days or even weeks.
