Theresa May suffers first defeat in Commons – in key Brexit bill vote

The Government has suffered its first defeat in a critical Brexit vote. MPs supported a Tory rebel amendment for a “meaningful vote” on any Brexit deal by 309 votes to 305.

MPs were voting on a series of amendments to Theresa May’s flagship Brexit legislation. Former Attorney General Dominic Grieve is demanding changes to the Bill to require any final Brexit deal to be approved by a separate act of Parliament.
