Supreme Court Mississippi abortion ruling would be ‘political earthquake’, says law professor

It’s being called the most important abortion case in a generation.

Today the US Supreme Court heard a case brought by the state of Mississippi against an abortion provider from the state.

Mississippi wants abortion banned after 15 weeks in an aim to make the state “the safest place in America for an unborn child”.

Tonight the justices appear to be leaning towards overturning women’s constitutional right to abortion.

We spoke to Professor Mary Ziegler, who teaches law at Florida State University and is an expert on the legal history of abortion in America.

We asked her if this challenge could upend abortion rights for women across the US.
