Sunak unveils new job support scheme

Political Editor

Calling it a plan to support the British people, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a multi-billion pound package of financial support to help workers and firms struggling to stay open despite the coronavirus restrictions.

The chancellor has quadrupled the size of the job support scheme, less than a month after he first announced it – and up to 150,000 firms in England will be eligible for monthly cash grants.

But although widely welcomed by businesses, there’s been fury from northern regions which have already been living under similar restrictions for months.
