Sunak tells party to get behind Rwanda policy as he faces potential revolt

Political Editor

Rishi Sunak is facing a potential revolt from both flanks of his party – over his emergency legislation declaring Rwanda a safe destination to send asylum seekers. Centrist MPs say they’re nervous about the implications of the bill – which will be voted on next week – while right-wing MPs want to beef it up.

The Prime Minister told his party to get behind the plan at an emergency press conference, after the Immigration Minister quit, saying it didn’t go far enough.
