The pandemic’s impact on the justice system was brought into sharp focus today, as inspectors in charge of overseeing probation, police, prisons and prosecutions in England and Wales expressed “grave concern” at the backlog in court cases. Some victims have had to wait years for their case to be heard.

We spoke to a woman who’s had her trial date delayed three times since the pandemic, as lawyers warn the system was in trouble.
