‘Serious gap between reports of rape and cases that are charged’: Max Hill QC – Director of Public Prosecutions

New data released today by the Crown Prosecution Service shows the number of rape convictions is at a record low in England and Wales.

The numbers of convictions for rape or lesser offences has fallen a quarter since a year ago.

And the number of completed prosecutions is down almost a third.

Meanwhile the number of cases referred to the CPS by the police has dropped almost a fifth.

We spoke to the head of the Crown Prosecution Service Max Hill QC.
