Serena Williams announces retirement from tennis

She’s the most successful female tennis player of the modern era. But today Serena Williams announced she will give up the sport which made her a global icon.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion didn’t use the word ‘retirement’ or set a date for her last appearance but said she wanted to focus on her family.
