Savile: Man, 82, arrested in Berkshire

An 82-year-old man from Berkshire is arrested on suspicion of sexual offences as part of the Jimmy Savile sex abuse investigation, the Metropolitan Police confirms.

The pensioner is one of 11 people arrested so far under Operation Yewtree – the Met’s investigation into alleged offending by the former disc jockey and “others”.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said last night that the man, who has not been named, was interviewed under caution on 29 November last year, five days after a search warrant was executed at an address in Berkshire.

He has been bailed to a date in May pending further inquiries.

Police said the individual falls under the strand of the investigation which is looking at complaints against people who are not connected to Savile.

Several high-profile figures have been arrested in connection with the investigation including PR consultant Max Clifford, comedian Freddie Starr, DJ Dave Lee Travis, former TV producer Wilfred De’Ath and comedian Jim Davidson.

They all deny any wrongdoing and De’Ath was this week released without charge.

A police report released in January revealed that Savile abused children across six decades at 14 hospitals including Great Ormond Street while working as a DJ and TV presenter at the BBC.
