The Casey Review says the UK’s largest police force is “broken”. The racism, misogyny and homophobia is inflicted on the public they are supposed to protect as well as fellow officers.
And it isn’t just the shocking individuals like rapist and murderer Wayne Couzens and serial rapist David Carrick. It is institutional and systemic.
One female former officer we spoke to said she felt like a “fish in shark infested waters”. Labour accused the government of dangerous complacency.
