Review calls for new rights for people with severe mental health issues

People with severe mental health issues should be given new rights to stop abuse and neglect – and make sure they get better care.

That’s according to a year long independent review which says the 1983 mental health act is outdated.

It’s calling for a series of new rights – including giving the 50,000 people who are sectioned every year more say in their own treatment – along with better protection.
