Rare butterfly species reintroduced to wild at peat bog near Manchester

Chief Correspondent

Along a stretch of peat bog just outside Manchester – a sight not seen for a century and a half.

Thanks to work by local conservationists, threatened peatlands are being restored.

That’s allowed a whole variety of plants to flourish, and so too, a rare species of butterfly which has been extinct in the area for 150 years.

It’s been a painstaking process to reintroduce them to the wild.
