Rape victims asked to hand over phones to police

Victims of offences, including rape, could be required to hand over their mobile phones and social media accounts to police, or risk not seeing their attackers prosecuted.

It follows a number of collapsed trials.

The Director of Public Prosecutions said phones would only be examined if they were a “reasonable line of inquiry”. But some victims are now planning a legal challenge, and we have been speaking to one of them.
