Rajoy rejects talks call after Catalan elections

Spain’s prime minister has rejected a call for talks abroad from the fugitive former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, who’s still refusing to return to Spain where he faces possible arrest. After yesterday’s snap elections in Catalonia handed pro-independence parties a parliamentary majority, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy admitted “it is evident something is broken”.

But the election hasn’t ended in total clarity: the party with the biggest number of votes wants to stay part of Spain.
