Rain brings relief after protracted heatwave

Britain’s heatwave, the most protracted since 1976, is over – for now at least. There’s been glorious sunshine and unbearable heat throughout the last few weeks, but now rain is falling over a large part of the country and normal summer service, including travel disruption, has been resumed.

It’s not just Britain that’s been affected by the extreme temperatures and drought. There have also been devastating wildfires in California.
