Progress in Lebanon ceasefire talks as Gaza destruction continues

America’s Middle East envoy Amos Hochstein is on his way to meet Israeli leaders to try and agree a plan for ceasefire talks with Hezbollah, after making what he called “additional progress” in Beirut.

But an attempt at the United Nations Security Council to demand a truce in the Gaza war has just been vetoed by the United States – because it said it was not contingent on an immediate release of the hostages still being held by Hamas.
