Prison violence has ‘risen inexorably’ since austerity cuts, says Chief Inspector of Prisons

The Chief Inspector of Prisons has demanded that the Government take urgent action to tackle conditions at Exeter prison. Peter Clarke has given the Justice Secretary 28 days to respond with a plan to tackle rising levels of violence and self harm at the Category B jail, which has seen 5 self-inflicted deaths in the last year.
