Political establishment turned ‘blind eye’ to child sexual abuse allegations, says inquiry

The former leader of the Liberal party Lord Steel has resigned from the House of Lords after an inquiry into child abuse accused him of an “abdication of responsibility”.

The long-awaited investigation into historical child abuse allegations in Westminster concluded that the political establishment “regularly put their own reputations or political interests before child protection”.  Child abuse claims were covered up – while high-profile politicians were protected from police action.
