Chief Correspondent

Travelling around this region reveals the unimaginable scale of the tragedy.

The United Nations has said that 10.9 million people in Syria have been affected by the quakes in the northwestern provinces including cities like Aleppo.

Many live in rebel-held areas where there was already an acute humanitarian crisis.

It’s estimated that 13.5 million Turkish citizens have been directly affected by the quakes with the impact area including densely populated cities such as Gaziantep, Sanliurfa and Karamanmarrash, which has seen some of the worst damage.
