Paris teacher invented story about classroom stabbing

A French nursery teacher who claimed to have been stabbed by a man who said he was acting for Islamic State made up the story, according to the Paris prosecutor.

“He is being interviewed with a view to establishing the reasons for this invented story,” an official said.

The teacher was taken to hospital this morning after saying he had been stabbed by a man wearing a balaclava as he was preparing for lessons at his school in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers.

The 45-year-old said his attacker had shouted: “This is for Daesh (Islamic State).” France’s education minister visited the premises, where lessons were cancelled today.

The incident led to a manhunt, just a month after the Paris terror attacks.

On 13 November, 130 people were killed in Paris by gunmen and suicide bombers in an attack claimed by IS.

IS controls swathes of Syria and Iraq and has vowed to attack France, which is a member of the coalition of countries conducting air strikes against it.
