Palestinian peace negotiator dies with Covid-19

International Editor

Three days of mourning have been declared after the death of the Palestinian peace negotiator Dr Saeb Erekat. The 65 year old died from Covid-19. He was a witty and popular figure, credited with helping to negotiate the 1993 Oslo Accords that gave Palestinians the right to govern the Gaza Strip and parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. But the Palestinian state he devoted his life to creating still does not exist.
