Paedophile coach Barry Bennell jailed for 30 years

Paedophile football coach Barry Bennell has been jailed at Liverpool Crown Court for 30 years for abusing 12 young footballers he coached between 1979 and 1991. Half of the term will be served in custody, with the rest on licence, with an additional licence period of one year.

The judge labelled him “the devil incarnate” and four victims faced him in court to read statements about the terrible impact of his abuse. Jane Deith reports from Liverpool, where victims spoke to the press outside the court with their supporters behind them.
