Over 1,500 police officers accused of violence against women

New figures show more than 1,500 police officers in England and Wales have been accused of violence against women and girls over a period of just six months – while only a tiny fraction of cases resulted in anyone being sacked.

Police chiefs said it showed the urgency of rooting out “abusers and corrupt individuals” – while campaigners have called for a range of reforms to increase oversight and tackle misogyny.
