WWI on film: harsh realities on and off the battlefield
More than 700 hours of moving film footage from the great war has been newly released online for the first time, in a joint European project involving the UK’s Imperial War Museum.
Stories include that of Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker, two friends who bonded over a love of motorcycles and a determination to run their own hospital on the front line.
It forms part of a £40m revamp of the museum, with a new state-of-the-art gallery designed to tell the story of the great war for a wide audience.
