Ohio residents fear impacts of toxic train crash

North of England Correspondent

The repercussions of a massive toxic chemical spill in a small town in Ohio – after a freight train carrying carcinogenic waste veered off the tracks and caught fire three weeks ago – continue to reverberate across the US.

Thousands of people have been evacuated, and those that remain complain of acute medical symptoms as well as anxiety about the long term health risks from soil, air and water contamination.

The incident has sparked a blame game across the political divide, with the White House demanding the train company pay for the damage and the clean up efforts.

The train operator itself says it has been supporting the affected residents.
