Nurses to stage 48-hour strike in March as pay dispute escalates

Senior Political Correspondent

Nurses will be significantly stepping up their strike action – walking out for 48 hours at more than 120 sites around England – reducing services to what they called an “absolute minimum”.

The Royal College of Nursing insisted patients and nurses had not wanted it to happen – but said the prime minister had refused to negotiate. The government said it could risk patient safety.

On top of that – more strikes have also been announced by Royal Mail and railway staff.
