Northumbria police defends decision to use convicted rapist in child sex abuse investigation

Special Correspondent and Presenter

Northumbria police have defended using a convicted child rapist in an investigation into child sexual abuse in Newcastle. Over the course of 4 trials, 17 men and one woman were convicted of offences including rape, supplying drugs and inciting prostitution. Today the police insisted that the information supplied by their informant prevented other girls from becoming victims, but admitted they couldn’t be certain he hadn’t attended the parties where abuse took place.
