Northern Ireland closes schools too as Irish St Patrick’s day address strikes sombre tone

Northern Ireland joined the rest of the UK in announcing the closure of schools today, bringing their approach further in line with measures already taken in the Republic of Ireland.

Muted St Patrick’s Day celebrations yesterday were capped by a sombre speech from the Irish Prime Minister warning that this was “the calm before the storm” and calling for unity to face the crisis.
