No new Covid restrictions in England before new year

The health secretary Sajid Javid says there will be no new Covid restrictions introduced in England before  the new year, though he has urged people to remain cautious.

There was a 27% rise in hospital admissions last week in England while Scotland saw a record number of daily cases over the weekend. New rules on mixing and social distancing have come into force there, and in Wales and Northern Ireland.
