Nissan to expand UK electric car production and create thousands of jobs

North of England Correspondent

Japanese car giant Nissan is to build a huge battery plant in the UK and will produce a new model of electric car, with financial support from the government.

Thousands of jobs will be created, both in Sunderland and throughout the supply chain.

On a visit to the Nissan plant, the prime minister described the move as a “massive benefit to the UK economy”, although he wouldn’t reveal any details of the deal.
