Channel 4 News can reveal that a NHS worker was stabbed by a patient in a south London hospital’s emergency department this week.
Staff at Lewisham Hospital’s A&E had been warning for some time they were not safe before the attack.
They said staff shortages were leaving them more vulnerable while compounding the frustration of waiting patients.
A recent NHS staff survey also showed 75,000 employees had experienced violence and aggression from patients, relatives or the public.
